The center's position in the main shopping area of Norridge next to the Harlem/Irving Plaza has been a major factor in its success. The center lies adjacent to the City of Chicago and is easily accessible from the surrounding communities by means of major thoroughfares that run extensively in all directions. In addition, Interstate 90 (Kennedy Expressway) is located two miles north of the shopping center. Norridge Commons recently completed remodeling and tenant upgrades including facade and landscaping renovation, a new restaurant outlot, plus parking lot changes to improve traffic flow. The trade area consists of a densely populated, middle class customer base and is comprised mainly of long-time residents who remain loyal to the area's retail businesses. The 550,000 square foot Harlem-Irving Plaza, the area's largest and most successful enclosed regional shopping mall, lies across the street from Norridge Commons. These two centers comprise the majority of the area's shopping facilities. The area is one of Chicago's oldest and most established neighborhoods.
