Shops and Residences of Wicker Park is a mixed-use, retail/office center on Milwaukee Avenue situated in the trendy Wicker Park neighborhood, just two miles northwest of downtown Chicago. It is the only shopping center in the general area. The neighborhood is experiencing a transformation toward young marrieds, singles and urban professionals and consequently an increase in restaurants, nightlife, and residential developments.
As a result, Freed is in the middle of an expansion and remerchandising program. The immediate area has excellent access by all types of transportation. Interstate 94 (Kennedy Expressway), with a full interchange, is only five blocks east of the site. Two rapid transit stations provide service to and from downtown Chicago as well as the north and northwest sides of the city. Additionally, there are bus stops on each side of the three arteries surrounding the center. The well-established Wicker Park community is very densely populated, with the majority of shoppers living within walking distance to the shopping center. Milwaukee Avenue, with its numerous shops and businesses, is one of the most vital retail areas of the city. The Milwaukee Avenue Chamber of Commerce draws significant pedestrian traffic to the area and the center through its annual promotional activities.
