Uptown Square is a mixed-use, redevelopment completed in 2004 in the trendy Chicago Uptown neighborhood . A one-time Goldblatt's department store and bank building, the site had been underutilized for decades before falling into decay and disrepair. The redevelopment resulted in the restoration and conversion of an historic terra cotta building to retail use and the reconstruction of two other structures for retail and residential uses and on-site secure parking. The City of Chicago, anxious to jump-start the gentrification of the Uptown neighborhood, worked closely with Freed to provide the economic incentives to help restore this historically significant building.
